Global Fund for Women is pleased to announce a new partnership with the  NoVo Foundation . The multi-year initiative with the C & A Foundation and Gender at Work serves to combat gender-based violence and strengthen the rights of female workers in the Asian clothing industry.

The NoVo Foundation is investing $ 1 million over a four-year period in the multi-year Learning Cooperative with the Women's Rights Organization to promote gender equality in the apparel industry. These funds, together with the 1.5 million euros that the C & A Foundation will invest in, were  announced1 in December 20161 to build the initiative.

The cooperative seeks, finances and empowers organizations in the fight against gender-based violence against workers in South Asia, notably Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Myanmar and Vietnam, who play an important role in the fashion industry supply chain. The initiative helps women workers in the garment industry to learn more about their rights and exercise and safeguard these rights, and to bring about systemic change that is essential for the prevention of violence.

"We are delighted that the NoVo Foundation, one of our long-time supporters and partners, is joining our initiative to combat gender-based violence in the garment industry and female staff trafficking," said Musimbi Kanyoro, President and CEO of Global Fund for Woman. "We are confident that through this initiative, together with the NoVo Foundation and our other partners, the C & A Foundation and Gender at Work, we can bring about long-term changes for the workers."

The investment commitment of the NoVo Foundation, which focuses on promoting the initiative, will be finalized at the start of the application review process. The initiative plans to award the initial funding to the partners in June 2017.

With a long-term focus on stronger partnerships, systemic workplace and community change, and learning and evaluation activities, this initiative builds significantly on the work of the NoVo Foundation, the Global Fund for Women, Gender at Work, and the C & A Foundation on tackling gender-based violence and promotion of women's rights.

About C & A Foundation

The C & A Foundation is a corporate foundation aiming to transform the fashion industry. To this end, we provide financial support, know-how and networks for brands, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders to change the fashion industry for the benefit of all concerned.

Our work focuses on four areas where we can get the most out of people: promoting organic cotton and other sustainable materials, improving working conditions, combating forced and child labor and empowering communities. We believe that strengthening women's rights is fundamental to changing the industry.

About Gender at Work

Gender at Work is a transnational network of individuals and organizations that build knowledge and develop practices to end discrimination against women and promote a culture of equality. We focus on building individual capacity, collective capacity and awareness and a solid foundation that combines knowledge and theory of different origins and contexts to support and deepen efforts to uncover and transform informal norms and rules. We work with a wide range of organizations, networks and movements to help them identify these deep-rooted norms, combat and change, creating an internal culture of equality and contributing to the transformation of cultural norms that offer gender equality and social justice. We achieve this by building knowledge and capacity building, gaining insights on gender equality, strategic evaluation and related lessons learned, and building partnerships that bring together developers and other sectors (academia, women's rights networks, private sector, etc.).
